Perfect Pumpkin Chai Latte Concentrate (Easy Starbucks Copycat)

A rich, spiced syrup brewed with black tea, pumpkin puree, and warm chai spices. Make it once and enjoy pumpkin chai lattes all week long.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ยฝ cup pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 4 black tea bags (Assam or English Breakfast)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (preferably Ceylon)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ยฝ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ยผ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ยผ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Milk of choice for serving (whole milk, oat milk, or almond milk)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups water, 1 cup granulated sugar, and ยฝ cup pumpkin puree. Whisk until mostly incorporated.
  2. Stir in 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ginger, ยฝ teaspoon cardamom, ยผ teaspoon cloves, and ยผ teaspoon nutmeg.
  3. Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer (not a rolling boil). Stir occasionally, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring every minute to prevent sticking.
  5. Remove from heat. Add 4 black tea bags, fully submerged. Steep for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove tea bags, pressing gently against the pan to extract liquid. Discard tea bags.
  7. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  8. Strain the concentrate through a fine-mesh strainer into a heat-safe bowl or storage jar to remove any spice clumps or pumpkin bits.
  9. Let cool completely at room temperature. Seal and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  10. To make a latte: Fill a mug โ…“ full with concentrate. Add โ…” cup milk. Heat in microwave for 1-2 minutes or on stovetop until steaming. Stir and enjoy.

Notes

Don’t boil the mixture to prevent sugar crystallization and scorching. Use fresh spices for best flavor. The concentrate keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. For a stronger chai, steep tea bags longer. For a less sweet version, reduce sugar to ยพ cup.
