Quick and easy patriotic Rice Krispie treats with red, white, and blue sprinkles, perfect for summer celebrations and crowd-pleasing snacks.

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal (about 150g)
  • 10 oz marshmallows (about 280g), regular or mini
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (about 43g), softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup patriotic sprinkles (red, white, and blue mix, about 75g)

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with wax or parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper or pan edges to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat, melt 3 tablespoons (43g) of unsalted butter, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add 10 oz (280g) marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula until marshmallows are completely melted and smooth, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  5. Quickly add 6 cups (150g) Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Fold gently but thoroughly to coat all the cereal evenly without crushing it.
  6. Fold in 1/2 cup (75g) patriotic sprinkles evenly.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Using a buttered spatula or greased hands, press the mixture evenly into the pan without pressing too hard.
  8. Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to firm up. Optionally, refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to speed setting.
  9. Lift the treats from the pan using the parchment overhang and cut into squares or desired shapes. Serve immediately or store.

Notes

Melt butter and marshmallows over low heat to avoid burning. Fold cereal and sprinkles gently to keep treats light and chewy. Grease hands or spatula before pressing mixture to avoid sticking. Use fresh marshmallows for best texture. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze up to 1 month.
