These easy rainbow fruit kabobs are a quick, healthy, and fun after-school snack that kids love. Made with fresh fruit and wooden skewers, they’re perfect for busy weekdays and customizable with your favorite fruits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and halved if large
  • 1 cup mandarin orange segments (canned in juice, drained) or cubed mango
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned in juice, drained) or banana slices (dipped in lemon juice)
  • 1 cup green grapes or kiwi (peeled and quartered)
  • 1 cup blueberries or blackberries
  • 6-inch or 8-inch wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash and prep your fruit: rinse all fruit under cold water and pat dry. Hull strawberries and cut in half. If using mango, peel and cut into 1-inch cubes. Peel kiwi and cut into quarters. Drain canned fruit well.
  2. Set up your assembly line: arrange prepped fruit in small bowls or on a cutting board in rainbow order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue.
  3. Start threading: take a wooden skewer and start with a piece of red fruit (strawberry half) about an inch from the bottom. Add an orange segment, then a pineapple chunk, then a green grape, then a blueberry. Repeat pattern until skewer is full, leaving about an inch at the top.
  4. Repeat with remaining skewers until all fruit is used. You should get about 8-10 kabobs.
  5. Serve immediately or chill: best enjoyed fresh. To make ahead, arrange on a plate, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 4 hours.

Notes

For young children, snip sharp points off skewers with kitchen shears. Keep fruit dry to prevent slipping. Don’t overload skewers; leave space at both ends for easy handling. For bananas, dip slices in lemon juice to prevent browning. Use fresh, firm fruit for best results.
