Crispy Mummy Hot Dog - featured image

A fun and spooky Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough with melted cheddar cheese and poppy seed eyes. Quick to make and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (14.1 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 standard beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Poppy seeds (for eyes)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Slice each hot dog lengthwise down the center, stopping about a quarter-inch from the ends to create a pocket.
  3. Stuff shredded cheddar cheese into the slit of each hot dog and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press seams together. If warm, chill for 10 minutes.
  5. Cut each dough triangle in half lengthwise to create long, thin strips.
  6. Wrap the dough strips around each hot dog, leaving the top exposed for eyes. Tuck the end underneath.
  7. Press two poppy seeds into the exposed top of each hot dog to create eyes.
  8. Brush the tops of the mummies with the egg wash.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is deep golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Let cool for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure hot dogs are dry before wrapping to help dough adhere. Do not wrap dough too tightly to prevent shrinking. For a vegetarian version, substitute hot dogs with large mozzarella sticks or grilled halloumi. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven at 350°F to maintain crispiness.
