A comforting holiday side dish featuring creamy roasted sweet potatoes topped with mini marshmallows that are broiled until golden, caramelized, and crispy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3–4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4–5 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and position the rack in the upper third for broiling.
  2. Pierce sweet potatoes with a fork and bake directly on the oven rack for 45-60 minutes until tender, or boil peeled chunks for 15 minutes. Let cool until handleable.
  3. Scoop out the flesh and discard skins. Mash potatoes in a large bowl until smooth.
  4. Add softened butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix until fully combined and creamy.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle mini marshmallows evenly over the top without pressing them down.
  7. Broil for 2-4 minutes, watching closely, until marshmallows are golden brown and puffed.
  8. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use mini marshmallows for even melting. Watch the broiler closely as marshmallows can burn quickly. For dairy-free, use coconut oil and cream. For gluten-free, ensure marshmallows are certified gluten-free.
