Crispy Halloween Veggie Tray Spider Web - featured image

A visually striking and delicious Halloween snack featuring a spider web made from crispy fried wonton strips draped over fresh celery, carrots, and cucumbers, served with creamy ranch dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package square wonton wrappers
  • Neutral oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Large bunch of celery stalks
  • Large orange carrots, peeled and cut into thick batons
  • English or Persian cucumbers, cut into thick rounds or sticks
  • Small broccoli florets
  • Homemade or high-quality store-bought ranch dressing
  • Dried parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry all vegetables thoroughly. Cut celery into 4-inch stalks, carrots into thick sticks, and cucumbers into rounds or sticks. Arrange them tightly on a large platter.
  2. Pour about an inch of neutral oil into a deep pan and heat to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Cut wonton wrappers into thin strips (about 1/4 inch wide). Carefully drop strips into hot oil in small batches, frying until golden and puffed (seconds).
  4. Remove fried wonton strips with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
  5. Lay the fried wonton strips over the vegetables in a random, crisscross pattern to resemble a spider web. Drape strips over celery to create spider bodies.
  6. Place a bowl of ranch dressing on the platter. Garnish with dried parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure oil is at 350°F to prevent soggy wontons. Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Assemble the web right before serving to maintain crispness. Leftover wonton strips can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
