Crispy apple slices are baked or air-fried until perfectly crunchy, then drizzled with a warm peanut butter sauce and melted chocolate. This quick and easy snack tastes like dessert but is made with wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 12 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, to thin peanut butter)
  • 2 tablespoons semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons chopped peanuts or almonds
  • Optional toppings: shredded coconut, flaky sea salt, dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) or air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Core the apples and slice into thin rounds, about 1/4-inch thick.
  3. In a medium bowl, toss apple slices with cinnamon until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, without overlapping.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until slightly golden and dry to the touch. For air fryer, check at 8 minutes.
  6. Transfer baked apple slices to a serving plate and let cool for about 5 minutes.
  7. While apples cool, combine peanut butter, honey or maple syrup, and coconut oil (if using) in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth and warm. Alternatively, microwave in 15-second intervals.
  8. In a separate small bowl, melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring between each.
  9. Arrange cooled apple slices on serving plate, overlapping slightly. Drizzle warm peanut butter mixture over the top, then drizzle melted chocolate.
  10. Sprinkle chopped nuts and any other desired toppings over the nachos. Serve immediately.

Notes

The key to crispy apples is the quick bake or air fry to remove excess moisture. Do not skip this step. For best texture, serve immediately after assembling. If making ahead, slice apples and toss with cinnamon, then refrigerate until ready to bake. To thin thick peanut butter, add warm water or melted coconut oil a teaspoon at a time.
