This Creamy Buffalo Chicken Dip Stuffed Bread Bowl takes the classic game-day dip and stuffs it into a warm, crusty bread bowl. It’s the kind of appetizer that makes you the hero of the party without spending all day in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar recommended)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1 large round loaf of sourdough or artisan bread (about 11.5 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives or green onions (for garnish)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks (for serving)
  • Extra buffalo sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take the cream cheese out of the fridge to soften.
  2. If using a rotisserie chicken, remove the skin and shred the meat using two forks to get about 2 cups of bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo wing sauce, and ranch dressing. Mix until smooth and well combined. Fold in the shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and crumbled blue cheese (if using). Stir until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Using a serrated knife, carefully cut a circle out of the top of the bread loaf, about 2 inches from the edge. Set the top aside. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside of the loaf, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Tear the removed bread into bite-sized pieces and set aside for dipping.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the garlic powder and onion powder. Brush this mixture generously over the inside of the bread bowl and the inside of the top piece. Place the hollowed bread bowl and the top piece on a baking sheet. Bake for 5-7 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and crispy.
  6. Spoon the prepared buffalo chicken dip into the toasted bread bowl, packing it in gently. Place the bread top back on the loaf, or prop it up slightly with a toothpick. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted through.
  7. Let the stuffed bread bowl rest on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before serving. Transfer to a serving platter. Arrange the reserved bread pieces, celery sticks, and carrot sticks around it. Drizzle extra buffalo sauce on top and sprinkle with fresh chives or green onions.

Notes

Toasting the bread bowl is crucial to prevent sogginess. Use room temperature cream cheese for a smooth dip. Shred your own cheese for the best melt. Start checking the dip at 18 minutes to avoid burning the bread. Leftover dip can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
