Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Extra sour cream for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the canned black beans under cold water to remove starch and excess sodium. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Place the rinsed black beans, softened cream cheese, sour cream, Greek yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, and smoked paprika into a food processor.
  3. Pulse a few times to break up the beans, then blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and resembles a thick, dark paste. Scrape down the sides and blend again if necessary.
  4. Taste the mixture and season with salt and black pepper as needed. If too thick, add a splash of milk or extra sour cream.
  5. Transfer the bean mixture to a shallow serving bowl or large plate and spread it into a smooth, flat surface using the back of a spoon.
  6. Place extra sour cream into a small zip-top bag and snip off a tiny corner to create a piping bag.
  7. Starting in the center of the dip, squeeze out a small dot of sour cream. Draw concentric circles outward toward the edge of the bowl.
  8. Using a toothpick or knife tip, drag from the center outward to the edge to create the radial lines of the spider web.
  9. Sprinkle shredded white cheddar cheese over the center of the web and garnish with sliced green onions.
  10. Serve immediately at room temperature with tortilla chips or vegetable sticks.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps. If sour cream is too runny, chill it for 15 minutes before piping. The dip can be made up to two days in advance, but add the sour cream web and garnishes right before serving. Do not freeze as the dairy texture will change.
